Final Training Weeks
Well it's that time of year where I try my best to forget about everything and focus on getting myself completely race ready; I ride my DH bike as much as possible, ramp up the interval training on the rollers, switch to some fast and powerful movments in the gym and start my DH sprints. Of course the weather is being extremely helpful as it always is :) NOT! I remember this time last year I was on my XC bike all the time in the sun and dust! Now everything is covered in about a foot of snow and pretty much every uplift I book onto gets cancelled which is a pain for everyone, including the organisers. Thankfully it is only my DH riding that gets affected by the poor weather so I can still crack on with speed and power work, even if it's always cold!
The veiw from my house, all the tracks are up in the gorse, don't want to be crashing here!
I've got a pretty sweet set up at home, I really can't complain at all! I live half way up a pretty big hill and just on my door step is where all my little tracks are, in the picture you can see where all my tracks are when there isn't any snow! I'm lucky enough to have a pretty big garden too. In summer 2011 my friends Ruairidh and Calum McRitchie, my brother Arran and I all put our backs into it and built the sickest pumptrack ever! It's pretty big and there is still room left to build plenty more lines. Unfortunately I didn't get much time to ride it last year because it was such a busy summer but when the weather brightens up and drys out I'm going to be on that thing 24/7! Out in the garage theres bikes everywhere! I managed to clear a space though and I've got a squat rack, pull up bar and a bench in there, it's pretty handy having it right there, free and all mine so I don't have to worry about other ponces checking themselves out in mirrors! In the house it's pretty tight for space but I manage to squeeze in the kitchen when I go on the rollers. Apart from the constant roar of the wind and the horrid climb home after epic road rides everything there is, is pretty much all i need!
Keeping my water cold for refreshment, snow has some uses!
Well thats all that is happening these days in terms of training, I've got exams coming up in a couple of months so I'm supposed to be revising but it isn't easy with training and still going to school. It's my final year though and I think it is only about 3 and half weeks of school and 2 weeks of holiday before I go on exam leave so soon I'll be done with that and I can focus on World Cup no. 1, Fort William!
Cheers for now,
George
